Meeting minutes

The Independent Expert Scientific Committee on Coal Seam Gas and Large Coal Mining Development (IESC) meets regularly to prepare its scientific advice on coal seam gas and large coal mining developments. The IESC also use these meetings to increase their collective scientific understanding of the potential impacts of coal development proposals on water resources.

Meeting requirements

The IESC is scheduled to meet approximately every five weeks; however, if there are no Requests for Advice a meeting may be cancelled. The IESC has a statutory requirement to hold at least one meeting every 12 months.

Most of the IESC's meetings are held in Canberra, with locations in Queensland, New South Wales and other areas of Australia used for hosting meetings.

Where the IESC has been requested to provide advice at short notice or to meet social distancing requirements, meetings are held off-line via tele or video conference. The 68th meeting, held in May 2020, was the first to be convened entirely through video conferencing.

All meeting minutes are published on this page.
