About the document

For some topics, additional guidance material has been written to supplement the IESC Information guidelines for proponents preparing coal seam gas and large coal mining development proposals and associated explanatory notes, providing tailored guidance and up-to-date robust scientific methodologies and tools for specific components of environmental impact assessments on coal seam gas and large coal mining developments.

This fact sheet supplements the IESC Information Guidelines and associated explanatory notes, by providing case studies that explain how environmental water tracers can complement other types of information and investigations that are commonly undertaken for an environmental impact assessment.

Further information

During the development of the fact sheet, IESC members Dr Glen Walker and Professor Craig Simmons gave opening addresses on behalf of the IESC to the CSIRO workshop on Environmental Tracers in Coal and Unconventional Gas Development Proposals in May 2018.

The one-day workshop brought together experts from academia, research agencies, industry and regulatory bodies.

A summary of the CSIRO workshop can be found on the CSIRO website - Workshop on environmental tracers in coal and unconventional gas development proposals
