This review highlights the work of the Independent Expert Scientific Committee on Unconventional Gas Development and Large Coal Mining Development (IESC) in the 2023–2024 financial year.

Key elements of the IESC’s work in 2023 – 2024 included:

• providing 7 pieces of scientific advice on proposed resource development projects
• publishing 4 resource documents 
• completing a metagenomic research project
• continuing to engage with a range of stakeholders to explain our role
